Types of Stroke
Stroke can be classified into two types, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke.
1- Ischemic Stroke
The blood supply to our brain is reduced or stopped in this kind of stroke. Why does this happen? It may be because of any of the below four reasons:
- When a blood clot gets stuck in a blood vessel. This condition is known as thrombosis.
- When a blockage-causing material called embolus gets stuck in a blood vessel. This condition is called an embolism. It may be a blood clot, any fatty deposit, debris or bubble of gas.
- When a decrease in blood flow occurs because of shock.
- When a blood clot is present in the dural venous sinuses, a condition known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.
2- Hemorrhagic Stroke
When due to any reason, a blood vessel in your brain breaks or ruptures, the blood supply is again interrupted. This is known as a hemorrhagic stroke. It is mainly caused by high B.P.
Another type of stroke which is not very common is a transient ischemic attack. In this type, the blood supply is interrupted for a short period of time and gets ok after a few minutes.
Stroke is caused when your blood vessels get narrower. Some factors that can increase the chances of a stroke are:
- High cholesterol level in your blood
- Overuse of blood thinners
- No exercise
- Some medications
- Heart diseases

1- Control Your Blood Pressure
Blood pressure plays a vital role in the maintenance of your good health. Maintaining normal blood pressure can save you from a stroke.
2- Eat a Balanced Diet
Avoid eating that food which contains high levels of fats and cholesterol.
3- Avoid Obesity
Obese people are more at risk of having a stroke. Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight to avoid stroke.
4- Quit Smoking and Tobacco Use
Avoid smoking and tobacco use to maintain good health. Alcohol consumption should also be controlled. This can reduce the chances of stroke.
5- Avoid Some Medications
Do not use illegal drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine. Blood thinners should only be used after the doctor’s advice.
